Hawks Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Godfathers
|
The Pontiac Godfathers got a superb performance from pitcher Laurent Schweitzer. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Laredo. The Hawks won the game, 5-4. In spite of the loss, Schweitzer was named the player of the game. He threw 7 innings allowing 4 runs. Laredo reliever Eric Hurt was the winner. His record is now 2-2. The losing pitcher was Tony Wilson. The 9th-place Godfathers have lost 4 straight games.
Elwiin de Meij had a nice at-bat for the Hawks with no one out in the bottom of the ninth. With a runner on 2nd, the second baseman grounded out, which would prove important in the Laredo win.
When asked about his performance after the game, de Meij said: "Like everyone else, I'm just doing my job."
