Hawks Drop Generals with Late Score
|
The Washington Generals got a sterling performance from pitcher Bill Slaughter, but the Hawks still prevailed, 4-2. Slaughter was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball. Laredo reliever Darrel Thomas picked up the win, upping his record to 1-2. Juan Gutiérrez took the loss. Laredo, at 19-17, occupies 5th place in the Silver A.
Laredo used the timely hitting of Geoff Sullivan to capture the win. The pinch hitter stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Hawks on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but he made it count.
"We put together a nice win," Sullivan said.
