Smokies Win at Washington, 4-1
|
The Tennessee Smokies got a strong performance from pitcher Alfredo Rincón, who stymied the Washington offense en route to a 4-1 win at Washington Park. Rincón picked up the win for Tennessee, going 6 innings. He gave up 1 run on 3 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. Earning his 9th save of the year was Harold Hunter.
It could have been a different outcome for Tennessee, had it not been for Vance Lee, the 20-year old catcher . Lee contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the third inning to put Tennessee up, 2-0.
Rincón expressed little emotion after the game. "Every game we win now," he said, "is one less win we'll need to get in the end."
The Smokies bumped their record to 17-16 with this latest triumph.
