Godfathers Turn Back Delaware, 7-6
|
Delaware got a terrific performance from left fielder Chandler Schroeder, but it wasn't enough to beat the Pontiac Godfathers. Pontiac won the Pontiac Copperdome contest, 7-6. Schroeder was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI. Pontiac reliever Armando Sosa picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Domingo García absorbed the loss. Tony Wilson, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save.
Had Xie-li Shiu not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Shiu hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 7-6, in favor of the Godfathers.
Godfathers manager Júlio Villegas wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
Pontiac has 3 straight wins, Delaware 3 straight losses.
