Shooters Knock Off Mariachis at Mariachi Band Shell
|
The exploits of catcher Júlio Chacón, who is tied for 5th in the PAA with a .947 OPS, helped the Springfield Shooters defeat the Nuevo Mexico Mariachis, 5-2. Chacón was 2 for 2 with a home run, a double, and 3 walks. Carlos Semprún, the winner, improved to 6-0. He held Nuevo Mexico to no earned runs on 4 hits over 5.2 innings, while racking up 6 strikeouts. Springfield has an impressive 36-13 record.
Springfield took a 3-2 lead on Chacón's 5th home run of the season. The solo home run, which he hit off Tomás Ramírez in the top of the sixth, propelled Springfield to the win.
"I thought we played a nice game," Chacón told the Springfield Citizen. "Good pitching, timely hitting, it was all there."
