The Ithaca Fighting Imps trumped the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles, 6-3, at Mercer Island Grounds. Ithaca right fielder Pedro Gonzáles was named player of the game for his performance. He was 2 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Ithaca reliever Marcos Córdova was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Jing-xiang Lingxin took the loss for Mercer Island. Picking up the save was Jimmy Whitney, his 1st.
The game was all tied up in the top of the ninth, until Gonzáles delivered big-time for Ithaca, stroking a dramatic 3-run home run off Jing-xiang Lingxin. The game-changing hit put the Fighting Imps on top, 6-3.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Gonzáles told the Ithaca Herald. "It's as simple as that."
With the win over Mercer Island, the Fighting Imps improved to 8-14.
