Airmen Win Thriller, 8-7
|
The Alameda Airmen beat the Grand Forks Caterpillars, 8-7, at Alameda Field. The Airmen got a fine performance from shortstop Héctor Heredice, who captured player of the game honors. He was 2 for 2 with 2 singles and 4 walks, while scoring 2 runs. The loss drops Grand Forks to 7-10.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With two out, Heredice hit a fastball from Carlos Rosado for a run-scoring single. The Airmen, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"It wasn't our best performance," said Heredice, "but a win in this league is nothing to sniff at."
