The Akron Blimps did just enough to sneak past the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles, 10-9, at Goodyear Hanger Dome. Akron catcher Dave Flynn earned player of the game honors. Akron reliever Lorenzo Encarnación picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Ryan Fry was saddled with the loss. With the win, Akron boosts its record to 3-2.

The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Roberto Méndez came to bat in the bottom of the tenth. Facing Mercer Island pitcher Jing-xiang Lingxin, he hit a first pitch forkball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Akron on top, 10-9.

"I like the grit of this ballclub," Méndez said.
