Ghosts Get One-Run Win at Providence
|
Field of Plenty was the site of an exciting ballgame between the Casper Ghosts and the Providence Pilgrims.
The Casper Ghosts topped the Providence Pilgrims by the score of 5-4, with the biggest share of the credit going to right fielder Izaak Gerkis. Gerkis went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Ghosts on the day. Mark Smith was the winning pitcher. Over 5 innings, he allowed 3 runs on 6 hits, with 1 walk and 4 strikeouts. Ernest Wheeler, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 9th save.
In the top of the first, Gerkis pounced on a 0-2 fastball from Rick Hubbard and hit a 2-run home run. It put Casper on top, 2-0.
"It was a good effort all around," said Gerkis.
The Ghosts bumped their record to 49-47 with this latest triumph.
