Farmers Sneak Past Nationals, 2-1
|
Ottawa wasted a solid 8-inning effort from starting pitcher Mark Wells, losing to Lancaster, 2-1, at Nationals Park. The save was credited to Bruce Reeves, his 3rd. The winning streak has now reached 4 games for Lancaster.
Lancaster needed the clutch hitting of Hughie Chesire to notch the win. The catcher hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Farmers on top, 2-1. For the game, Chesire had 1 home run and 1 single in 3 at-bats.
In postgame comments to the Lancaster Times, Chesire said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
