Northern Virginia rode a decent outing from starter Nick Rollins to victory over the Portland Evergreens at Evergreen Park. The final score was 6-3. Rollins went 8 innings to notch the win. He scattered 4 hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. His record improves to 1-1. The win lifts Northern Virginia to a record of 4-5.
Northern Virginia used the timely hitting of John Juanda to capture the win. The shortstop stroked a bases-clearing double in the top of the second inning to put the Rainbow Mermaids on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but he made it count.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Northern Virginia manager David Lister.
