Shuckers Win at Providence, 3-1
|
Biloxi Shuckers starter Fred Jerger was in fine form against the Providence Pilgrims at Field of Plenty, leading his team to a 3-1 win. Jerger got the win, improving to 4-8. He allowed 5 hits and walked 0 over 5 innings. Jerger allowed 1 earned run. Steve Davis converted his 5th save in 7 tries.
Biloxi used the clutch hitting of Emílio Vivas to capture the win. The right fielder drilled a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to give the Shuckers the lead, 3-1. For the game, Vivas had 1 single and 2 doubles in 4 at-bats.
"We made a couple of mistakes," said Providence skipper John Aston, "and it cost us."
Biloxi has now won 4 straight, while the Pilgrims have lost 3 in a row.
