Victory Over Thunder Takes Virginia Beach to 43-26
|
The Whales had to overcome a good performance from St. Petersburg pitcher Roberto Punyed to claim a 6-3 win at Rapiers Ballpark. Punyed went 5 innings and allowed no earned runs. Martin Rumbolt earned the save, his 12th, for the Whales. With the win, the Whales improved to 43-26.
Virginia Beach used the timely hitting of Paul Pitts to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Whales on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Pitts said.
