Hierro hits 2 home runs as Thunder Squeeze Past Virginia Beach

St. Petersburg beat Virginia Beach at Rapiers Ballpark, escaping with a 10-9 win. The win in large part was due to designated hitter António Hierro, who earned player of the game honors. He went 2 for 3 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times and driving in 4. Bill Tennant got the win, improving to 8-1. He worked 5 innings, giving up 5 runs on 3 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 4. St. Petersburg has now won 4 games in a row.
Hierro came through with some timely hitting for St. Petersburg. With the score 1-0 in the bottom of the first and no one down, Hierro hit a first pitch fastball for a 3-run home run. His 16th home run of the season made it 3-1, St. Petersburg.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Hierro told the St. Petersburg Herald. "It's as simple as that."
