Whales Shut Out Pilgrims

The Virginia Beach Whales got a good effort from starter Daryl Benstead in defeating the Providence Pilgrims at Field of Plenty. The final score was 4-0. Benstead, now 5-2, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing no earned runs. Getting the save was Jack Elvidge, his 1st.
Virginia Beach relied on the hitting of Kalino Iolana to pick up the win. The center fielder clubbed a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Whales on top, 2-0. For the game, Iolana had 1 home run and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"It was just a matter of executing," said Virginia Beach manager Bernie Drake.
Virginia Beach now has a 5-game win streak.
