The Hollywood Shredders racked up a win at The Hollywood Bowl, bumping off the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 5-3. Kent Good, who started for Hollywood, pitched effectively for his team. Reliever Larry Benítez picked up the win. His record improves to 4-3. Nick Rollins took the loss. Hollywood now sits in second place in the Premier League at 53-34.
The game was at a stalemate until catcher Jerry Yates came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Northern Virginia pitcher Kent Randall, he hit a first pitch cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Hollywood on top, 4-3.
"We did enough to win," said Yates.
