Thunder Come Up Short at Virginia Beach
The Virginia Beach Whales defeated the St. Petersburg Thunder, 3-2, in USSL Double A action at Virginia Beach Grounds, with Virginia Beach pitcher Daryl Benstead named player of the game. Virginia Beach is now 20-16, while St. Petersburg is 22-14.

The Whales used some clutch hitting to beat the Thunder, a good example being the at-bat of Roberto González in the bottom of the sixth. With two down, González gave his team the lead, 2-1, when he hit a run-scoring single.

"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Benstead said.
