Polar Bears Get Road Win, 7-2
|
The Billings Polar Bears beat the Marquette Miners, 7-2, at Marquette Stadium. Billings right fielder Jorge Cruz earned player of the game honors with an outstanding performance. He went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The 9th-place Polar Bears improved to 44-53.
Billings used the timely hitting of Gary Panniers to capture the win. The shortstop socked a grand slam home run in the top of the first inning to put the Polar Bears ahead, 4-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We'll savor this win," Panniers told the Billings Bulletin, "then get ready for the next game."
