Highlanders Cut Down Atoms, 4-1
|
Asheville Highlanders starter John Boyd pitched a strong game against the Bethesda Atoms at Atoms Field, leading the Highlanders to a 4-1 win. Boyd picked up the win for Asheville, going 6 innings. He gave up no runs on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 4-4. Ryan Long earned the save for Asheville, his 8th of the year.
In the top of the first, Wendell Palmer pounced on a fastball from Ralph Johnston and hit a run-scoring single. It gave Asheville a quick 1-0 lead.
"Winning makes the heart grow fonder -- for more winning," said Boyd, cracking a smile.
The Highlanders now have a record of 48-36.
