Irving pitcher Jim Porter did his part in helping his team beat the Asheville Highlanders, 2-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Irving reliever Nate Flores picked up the win, upping his record to 5-3. Ryan Long absorbed the loss. The Blue Sox now own a record of 31-39.

Irving took a 2-1 lead on Christopher Tracy's 14th hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Tracy hit in the bottom of the ninth, left Asheville pitcher Ryan Long visibly frustrated.

"The old adage is true," said Porter. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
