Northern Virginia shortstop Bill Dixon had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Dixon went 3-5 with a double and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI, even as Portland beat the Rainbow Mermaids, 7-6. Dixon was named the player of the game despite the loss. Portland now sits in 5th place in the Premier League at 44-35.
Portland took a 6-5 lead on Yosuke Daisen's 68th hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which Daisen hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Northern Virginia pitcher Nick Rollins visibly frustrated.
"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Daisen, "but we got it done."
