Fernando Soto was instrumental in his team's 6-2 triumph over the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids. The center fielder went 3-3 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once for the Portland Evergreens. Cristián Moreno got the win, improving to 2-0. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 5 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 1. With the loss, Northern Virginia sinks to 3-5.
One of the key players for the Evergreens was second baseman David Milliken, who drilled a run-scoring double in the bottom of the fourth inning. For the game, Milliken was 1-4 with a double.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Portland manager Brandon Slouck.
