Hops Beat Rails in 10
|
Richland center fielder Doyle Berkey had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Berkey went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once, even as Yakima beat the Rails, 6-5. Berkey was named the player of the game despite the loss. Batu Khan finished to wrap up his 14th save. The 5th-place Hops improved to 27-23.
Jorge Esparza's hit in the top of the tenth was a game-changer. With no one out, he rapped a sinker from Will Sovaiala for a run-scoring single. It put Yakima in front, 6-5.
"It was a solid team effort and we'll try to keep this momentum going," Esparza told reporters after the game.
