Matsumoto Hits 2 home runs in Evergreens Win
|
The Portland Evergreens trumped the Buffalo White Walkers, 11-4, at Evergreen Park. Portland first baseman Tetsu Matsumoto was named player of the game for his performance. He hit 2 home runs, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 3. Robert Smalls earned the win for Portland. He lasted 7 innings, allowing 1 earned run on 5 hits, while striking out 3. With the win, he raised his record to 3-5. The 5th-place Evergreens improved to 42-33.
One important at-bat came with runners on 1st and 2nd in the bottom of the sixth inning. Facing Buffalo hurler Dave Dunn, Derek Bangert, who is a two-time Gold Glove winner, got hit by a pitch. The Evergreens went on to win.
"Getting a lot of baserunners and getting some timely hits, it's a good combination," said Bangert.
