Marquette pitcher Herman Griffin did his part in helping his team beat the Richland Rails, 3-2. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. With the win, the Miners improved to 19-17.

Bill Knight's at-bat in the top of the sixth inning was a big one for Marquette. Coming to bat with one out, a runner on 2nd and Marquette trailing 2-1, the right fielder reached on an error by the left fielder, driving in 1 run.

"Winning the game is always the first objective," Knight said.
