Blues Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Hops
|
Fans who gathered at Hops Park saw a good contest between the Barton Springs Blues and Yakima Hops.
Behind a solid performance from center fielder Bill Gatacre, the Barton Springs Blues defeated the Yakima Hops, 4-2. Gatacre was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Blues. The winner was Adrian Newell, who threw 96 pitches over 7.1 innings. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs on 8 hits. Walton Gibbs recorded his 2nd save for Barton Springs.
A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 1st and one out in the top of the eighth inning. That's when catcher Tony San Pedro drew a walk. The Blues went on to win.
"I was able to barrel up some pitches," said Gatacre.
At 16-15, the Blues find themselves in 5th place in the Menard's AA.
