Highlanders Jolt Pierogis with Late Rally

Squirrel Hill got a terrific performance from first baseman Franck Morel, but it wasn't enough to beat the Asheville Highlanders. Asheville won the Asheville Park contest, 9-8. Morel was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. The Highlanders raised their record to 17-13.
Asheville took a 9-8 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. With one out, third baseman Mark Mears hit a 3-run home run that electrified the crowd.
"It feels good to get this one," Mears told the Asheville Gazette.
