Redbirds Need Extras to Top Blitzkrieg
|
Memphis starter Denie Coppens had a strong outing against the Port Huron Blitzkrieg at Port Huron Park. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 3-2 win. Memphis reliever Karisnu Raghunathan got the win, raising his record to 2-3. Daryl Dwyer was tagged with the loss. Ewan Atwood closed the door for Memphis, picking up his 6th save of the year.
Memphis used the timely hitting of Rodney McClellan to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Redbirds on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
During his postgame press conference, Redbirds manager Jorge Otero told reporters that he expected a tight game from the get-go. "This had the potential to go down to the wire, and it certainly didn't disappoint," he said, later quipping, "it might've been a little less nerve-racking if I had been watching the game from my couch!"
Memphis has now won 3 straight, while the Blitzkrieg have lost 3 in a row.
