Tortolita got a terrific performance from designated hitter John Wilder, but it wasn't enough to beat the Hialeah Dodos. Hialeah won the Dodos Ballpark contest, 5-3. Wilder was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He was 2-2 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. César Soto, the winner, improved to 5-4. He held the Drummers to 1 earned run on 5 hits over 6 innings, while striking out 4 and walking 3. The third-place Dodos have won 6 in a row.
Torcy, France-born Xavier Mercier came through in the clutch. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 3rd and the Dodos trailing 1-0, he hit a 2-run double to left-center to put Hialeah on top.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Hialeah manager Nick Allen.
