The Barton Springs Blues defeated the Asheville Highlanders, 7-2, at Asheville Park today. Leading the charge for Barton Springs was center fielder Bill Gatacre. He went 4-5 with a home run, a triple, and 2 singles. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. The win lifts Barton Springs to a record of 8-6.
Steffen Schulte had the most critical at-bat for Barton Springs. With one in the top of the ninth inning, Schulte hit a 2-1 curveball from Jason Cannon for a 2-run single. It put Barton Springs in front, 4-2.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Gatacre said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
