Piranhas Score Late, Upend Lakers, 9-3
|
The Echo Park Lakers got a sterling performance from pitcher Lance Barber, but the Piranhas still prevailed, 9-3. Barber was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He threw 5 innings of 2-hit ball. Panama City has now won 4 straight.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Carsello Scruggins came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Echo Park pitcher Craig Wash, he hit a 3-1 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Panama City on top, 4-3.
"I just try to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Scruggins.
