Browns Come Back Late to Clip Rainbow Mermaids
|
The Cleveland Browns took Northern Virginia pitcher Jerry Kumpf's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Atlantica. The final score had Cleveland getting past the Rainbow Mermaids, 5-2. Kumpf went 8 innings and allowed 2 earned runs, striking out 4. The Browns improve their record to 28-35 with the win over Northern Virginia.
Cleveland used the timely hitting of Tadayoshi Watanabe to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Browns on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll just keep our nose to the grindstone," Watanabe told the Cleveland Daily News.
