Fans who came to Lansing Park watched the Vermont Lake Monsters and the Memphis Redbirds fight to the finish.
The Vermont Lake Monsters had to overcome a big game from Memphis third baseman Chris Carson to leave Lansing Park with a 7-6 victory. Carson was 3 for 3 with a triple, a double, and a walk. He scored 3 times. Vermont starter Keith Lawrence was credited with the win after throwing 97 pitches over 5.1 innings. His record now stands at 2-5. Armando Trujillo, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 2nd save.
Vermont used the clutch hitting of Junya Furuya to capture the win. The shortstop drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Lake Monsters ahead, 6-4. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"We'll grab a cold one tonight and go after another win tomorrow," Furuya said.
The 6th-place Lake Monsters raised their record to 27-30.
