The Memphis Redbirds got a sterling performance from second baseman Bernardo Rodríguez, but the Drummers still prevailed, 6-5. Rodríguez was named the player of the game in a losing cause. He went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Zalontae Hillary got the win, improving to 4-1. He worked 5 innings, giving up 4 runs on 8 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 2. Carlos Taváres got the save, the 7th for him this season.
Tortolita used the timely hitting of Takechi Yamashita to capture the win. The catcher socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Drummers ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was an important one.
"I felt good up there," said Yamashita. "I saw the ball well."
The second-place Drummers are now 31-16, the Redbirds 24-23.
