Disaster Jolt Starks with Late Rally

Syracuse shortstop Atanza Vongor had a good game, even if his team did not. The Starks dropped a 7-5 decision to Port Royal at Ballpark of Port Royal. Vongor was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Reliever Masaharu Sakata picked up the win. His record improves to 2-0. Greyfriars Bobby took the loss. Shawn Stevenson sewed up the save, his 11th.
Had Anson Darrah not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 3rd, Darrah hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 6-5, in favor of the Disaster.
"Nice to put this one in the win column," said Darrah.
Port Royal now owns a record of 35-51.
