Sacramento right-hander Luis Varela pitched his team to victory over the Bakersfield Nobles at Jerome Grounds. The final score was 5-2. Varela, now 5-6, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 4, walking 3, and allowing 1 earned run. Sacramento, now 36-38, holds 7th place in the Premier AAA.
Sacramento needed the clutch hitting of Dave Vansant to notch the win. The designated hitter hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Redlegs on top, 3-1. For the game, Vansant had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.
