Brass Score Late, Top Tritons, 3-2
|
The Brass had to overcome a fine performance from Jersey City pitcher Mario Quintero to grab a 3-2 win at Brass Field. Quintero allowed 2 earned runs over 7 innings. Baton Rouge reliever Travis Hayes picked up the win, bumping his record to 1-0. Joe Haynes was collared with the loss. John Combs was credited with the save for Baton Rouge, his 2nd of the season.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Tae-gyoon Ch'oe came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Jersey City pitcher Joe Haynes, he hit a 0-1 curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Baton Rouge on top, 3-2.
"We came out on the wrong end of this one," said Jersey City skipper John McGrath.
The Brass bumped their record to 29-27 with this latest triumph.
