Nobles Come Back Late to Top Brass
|
The Baton Rouge Brass got a superb performance from pitcher Felipe Nieves. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Bakersfield. The Nobles won the game, 5-2. In spite of the loss, Nieves was named the player of the game. He threw 6 innings allowing 1 run. The win was credited to Wilson Rangel in relief. His record improves to 3-2. Rafael Bernal took the loss. The Nobles own a robust 32-18 mark.
Bakersfield used the timely hitting of Byron Ballard to seize the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Nobles on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Bakersfield manager Zach King.
