Nationals Lose Again, 7-5, to Pilgrims
|
Providence second baseman Julián Vélez was a significant contributor in his team's 7-5 triumph over the Ottawa Nationals. He was 2-5 with a home run. He scored 2 times and drove in 4 for Providence. Bernard Hewer earned the save, his 4th. Ottawa, at 2-14, has had a dismal start to the season.
Vélez came through with some timely hitting for Providence. With the score 2-0 in the top of the second and two down, Vélez hit a 0-1 fastball for a grand slam home run. His 1st home run of the season made it 6-0, Providence.
"Baseball is about momentum," said Vélez, "and we feel we've got it in our favor after that win."
