Syracuse got a terrific performance from pitcher José Flores, but it wasn't enough to beat the Sacramento Redlegs. Sacramento won the Sacramento Sanitation Station contest, 5-4. Flores was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 5 innings of shutout ball. The loss lowers the Syracuse record to 3-7.

Sacramento took a 5-4 lead on Ignacio González's 5th hit of the season. The run-scoring single, which González hit in the bottom of the tenth, left Syracuse pitcher Stan Lowe shaking his head.

"If we keep winning the close games," González said, "we'll be in good shape at the end."
