Opening day festivities have begun throughout the league. Fans of the Baton Rouge Brass were eager to watch Buzzy Grossman square off against Dean Cross of the visiting Port Royal Disaster. In the end, the Brass won the game, 5-1, with Buzzy Grossman earning player of the game honors. Grossman got the win, improving to 1-0. He allowed 7 hits and walked 4 over 6.2 innings. Grossman allowed 1 earned run. Earning his 1st save for Baton Rouge was José Rodríguez.

Stephen Goldobenko aided the Baton Rouge cause with a run-scoring double in the bottom of the sixth. For the game, the right fielder went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk.

"Enjoyed this one," Goldobenko told the Baton Rouge Bulletin. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
