Black Mambas Bang Out 6-3 Win Versus Sioux Falls
|
Sioux Falls got a terrific performance from pitcher Phil Soto, but it wasn't enough to beat the Austin Black Mambas. Austin won the The Bamboo Forest contest, 6-3. Soto was the player of the game despite being on the losing side. He threw 5 innings of 2-hit ball. Austin reliever José Lucero was credited with the win, to go to 1-0. Waylon Fraser took the loss for Sioux Falls. The second-place Black Mambas are now 20-12, the Red Pandas 19-13.
Austin used the timely hitting of Kamakakoa Kaponianani to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Black Mambas on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Kaponianani. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
