Stingers Come Back Late to Clip Flamingos
|
The Toledo Stingers topped the Las Vegas Flamingos by the score of 8-5, with the largest share of the credit going to first baseman Baldomero Avino. Avino went 2 for 5 with 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for the Stingers. Toledo reliever Yoriyoshi Sugimoto was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Takejiro Masuda. Las Vegas, at 5-13, is off to a poor start in 2042.
The clutch at-bat in the bottom of the ninth belonged to Avino. Facing Takejiro Masuda with runners on 1st and 2nd, the Toledo first baseman had a 3-run home run. Game over, walk-off style!
"We're feeling good in this clubhouse right now after that one," Avino told the Toledo Chronicle.
