Loss Extends Northern Virginia Losing Streak

Atlantica was the site of a exceptional pitchers' duel.
The New Orleans Voodoo did just enough to sneak past the Northern Virginia Rainbow Mermaids, 2-1, at Atlantica. New Orleans pitcher Sicnarf Loopstok earned player of the game honors. Loopstok went 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 0, and struck out 2. His record improves to 1-1. Wu-ti Xuan recorded the save for New Orleans, his 1st of the season.
The outcome might have been different for New Orleans, had it not been for Tony Calhoun, the 28-year old second baseman . Calhoun stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the fourth inning to put New Orleans up, 1-0. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"I'll probably toss and turn tonight," Northern Virginia manager David Lister said following the tough loss.
New Orleans, now 5-15, is off to a slow start.
