Great Day for Opio -- 5 Hits
Friday, August 23rd, 2041
There was no storybook ending. Manny Opio of the Fort Knox Centennial socked it to the visiting Twinsburg Tigers with a terrific 5-hit game today, but his team didn't get the win. The Centennial fell, 12-10, at Ballpark of Baxter.
"I don't want to sound ungrateful, but something is missing here," Opio complained following the loss. "When you have a great game you should win the game, too."
He definitely had an unforgettable day in the batter's box, ripping out 5 hits in 6 at-bats. Fort Knox manager Jesús Román sympathized with his second baseman, telling BNN reporters after the game that "Manny played a whale of a game, but sometimes individual brilliance is not enough."
Manny Opio struck out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, tripled in the 5th, singled in the 7th, hit a three-run home run off Emery William in the 9th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
Opio is batting .306 this year with 5 home runs, 35 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He has 57 hits in 186 at-bats.
