Menéndez Fashions Shutout Against Rails
Wednesday, June 19th, 2041
The Billings Polar Bears shut out the Richland Rails 5-0 today behind the strong pitching of Carlos Menéndez. Menéndez surrendered only 8 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 6.
Following the last out, Menéndez appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Richland manager Fernando Mendoza, who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken left-hander as the clubs left the field. Menéndez's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The Rails skipper would not comment on the exchange, but at the Polar Bears press conference, Menéndez confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Menéndez said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Billings manager Ramón Rodríguez added.
To date this year Menéndez has saved 0 games while tossing 52 innings. He has a 4.50 ERA, fanned 31 batters and made no relief appearances.
