Barthorpe Swats 3 Homers Monday, July 1st, 2041 Dean Barthorpe went on an explosive hitting spree against the Richland Rails at Asheville Park today, launching a trio of blasts to lead the Asheville Highlanders to the 9-1 win. The first baseman finished 3-for-3 with 3 runs scored and 5 RBI. "It was just one of those days," Barthorpe said in a postgame interview. "I don't know how to explain it. I'm just putting a good swing on the ball." Richland skipper Fernando Mendoza said Barthorpe was "locked-in." "We made some pretty good pitches," he said. "Those first two homers were exactly where the pitcher wanted to put them. He's just hot right now -- you've just got to tip your hat to him." Dean Barthorpe hit a solo-shot off Alfredo Molina in the 2nd, hit a three-run home run off Alfredo Molina in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off Jose Jovellanos in the 5th and walked in the 7th. This year Barthorpe is hitting .305, produced 36 RBIs and 11 home runs, scored 30 times and gotten on base at a .396 rate. |
