San Mateo's Cabanillas Jr. Shines, Shuts Out Colorado
Friday, August 9th, 2041
Anastasio Cabanillas Jr. of the San Mateo Dirty Reds was on top of his game today.

The 30-year-old tantalized the Colorado Billy Goats with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 13-0 shutout.

"He had the changeup working," Colorado manager Mack Kilkeary said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."

The San Mateo hurler had 2 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 5 hits in his complete-game effort.

Cabanillas Jr. told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."

"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.

This season Cabanillas Jr. has gone 5-8 with an ERA of 4.41, posting 61 strikeouts in 102 innings.
