The Greenville 84s scored a 4-3 win versus the San Mateo Dirty Reds at 84s Field. Greenville shortstop Gil Andersen nabbed top player honors in the tight contest. Greenville reliever Dave Lawson picked up the win, upping his record to 5-2. Urs Ehles absorbed the loss. The save was credited to Ramon Wuilink, his 5th.
Had Freedon Akinmoladun not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Akinmoladun hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the 84s.
"This was a good win for us," said Andersen. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
The first-place 84s have won 4 straight games.
