Krewe Win Again, Extend Series Lead to 2-0
|
Despite a great performance by Mercer Island starter Nolan Owens, the Crescent City Krewe defeated the Screaming Eagles by the score of 4-2 at Mercer Island Grounds today. Owens threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball to earn player of the game honors, but could not prevent the Krewe from moving one game closer to the Round 2. Crescent City now leads the PL AA Championship 2-0.
Crescent City used the clutch hitting of John Birges to capture the win. The third baseman drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to give the Krewe the lead, 3-2. For the game, Birges had 1 single and 1 double in 3 at-bats.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Crescent City manager Kelly Flint. "It's usually not just one thing."
Game 3 is scheduled for Friday at Field of the Krewe in Kenner. The scheduled starters for the game are Dawson Randolph for Mercer Island and Labeeb bin Muneer for Crescent City.
